FINDING INSPIRATION IN THE ATTIC
Probably the most common question asked of authors is where they get their ideas from. It's a good question because ideas for stories come from anywhere and everywhere. In the case of Broken Strings the original idea came from the discovery of an old violin in my mother's attic. Whose was it? Why was it there? It was such a beautiful instrument, an unusual instrument, and I wanted to believe that there was a story behind it.
That, of course, is where the imagination takes over. It's a bit like dropping ink into a glass of water. From a tiny drop, tendrils of colour float out weaving an intricate design. Some tendrils are thicker and stronger, others are weaker and more diffuse. Some circle round and link up and others take their own direction.
Slowly plot-lines emerge, characters grow and develop and the story takes shape.
